Azumi Kawashima

Azumi Kawashima (Kawashima Azumi, born August 8, 1979 in Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese idol and one of the most well-known stars of Japanese AV pornography. Starring in her first adult video (AV) at the age of seventeen, Kawashima rapidly rose in under two years to become the highest paid star of AV of the late 1990s.

Kawashima entered the porn industry trying to help her boyfriend pay off his debt. During her career, Kawashima posed in hundreds of nudes and non-nudes for various Japanese adult magazines such as URECCO and Beppin School. Popular in Japan, she also became a favourite both in Japan and in the West for her innocent demeanour and large breasts. In 1999, Kawashima reached the apogee of her success, being ranked top AV star by the Japanese pornography industry. In September of that year, her career in the industry ended when her boyfriend found out about her career. This is the reason why she has very few titles on her resume. However her fame still lives on and a few remakes of her films have been released. The possible reason for this is probably because she did not star in any hardcore, SM, or bondage films but concentrated on a more "innocent" and idol-like theme which the Japanese audiences favored. She has broken up with her boyfriend after her retirement from the industry and is now married to her manager from back in her AV star days. She has one child.
